A growing household brings a mix of questions.
A new child, a move, a change in child care, or a new job can change what belongs in this year's folder. Tell us what changed rather than assuming last year's return is a complete checklist.
Our page for individuals and families explains how to start with the changes that matter most for your return.
Your mailing address and your tax jurisdiction can differ.
Wake County lists Apex among its twelve municipalities. Even so, the U.S. Census Bureau explains that the city name in a mailing address may differ from the legal municipality where a home is located. A property with an Apex mailing address can sit outside town limits.
For property tax records, use the county bill for your own property. It is the record to keep with your return documents.
Property taxes and itemized deductions.
The IRS allows an itemized deduction, subject to limitations, for state and local real property taxes and value-based personal property taxes. IRS Topic 503 explains the federal rules. Whether itemizing helps depends on your full return.
Our guide to which county sends your property tax bill covers the nearby towns where the answer is less obvious.
Earning income on your own as well?
A side business or consulting work adds records to the personal return. Our page for self-employed clients explains how to bring work and personal tax questions into the same conversation.
Check your county's January listing rules.
Pick the county that bills your property to see what it asks you to list each January, when listing closes, and where to ask questions. The check opens on Wake County; switch it if a different county bills your property.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions you may have.
Do you prepare individual returns for Apex residents?
Yes. EJP Tax & Advisory works with individuals and families in Apex and across Wake County and surrounding counties.
My mailing address says Apex. Am I inside the town?
Not necessarily. A mailing city name can differ from municipal boundaries. Your county property tax bill or the county's property records show which jurisdictions apply.
Can we talk about withholding after a family change?
Yes. Withholding and payment questions after a life change can be part of a year-round tax advisory conversation, separate from preparing the return.
