An unincorporated address means no town tax line.
Willow Spring is not among the twelve municipalities on Wake County's list of cities and towns. Wake County charges county tax on all property and adds a town's rate only when the property is inside one of its cities or towns. Property can still owe a fire district tax if it sits in a fire tax district.
The Willow Spring name on a mailing address does not decide which county or district taxes the property. If Johnston County bills your property, the same idea applies: Johnston County notes that every property sits in at least two taxing districts, starting with the county and a city or fire district. Your bill shows which ones apply.
Property tax and the state and local tax limit.
Real estate tax paid during the year can be claimed as an itemized deduction under IRS Topic 503. For 2026 returns, IRS Publication 6079 lists the combined state and local tax limit as $40,400, or $20,200 if married filing separately. The limit is reduced at higher incomes but not below $10,000.
Whether itemizing beats the standard deduction depends on the full return. For 2026, the IRS lists a standard deduction of $32,200 for married couples filing jointly and $16,100 for single filers.
Taking the standard deduction? Cash gifts to charity can count.
Starting with 2026 returns, IRS Publication 6196 says eligible taxpayers who do not itemize can deduct up to $1,000 of qualifying cash contributions, or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly. Gifts to donor-advised funds generally do not qualify.
Keep receipts, canceled checks, or bank records for each gift. They go with the rest of your tax preparation documents.
Help with the return and the questions around it.
Individual tax return preparation covers the filing itself. Year-round tax advisory is a separate service for a decision you want to talk through before it reaches a return.
Check your county's January listing rules.
Pick the county that bills your property to see what it asks you to list each January, when listing closes, and where to ask questions. The check opens on Wake County; switch it if a different county bills your property.
